Should Late-Election Limits on Political Committee Contributions Stay in Place?
Washington's Public Disclosure Commission suspended enforcement of a late-race money cap, citing concern that the law is not enforceable.

Washington's Public Disclosure Commission voted to suspend enforcement of a law that limits contributions that political committees can accept, and that candidates can give themselves, in the final days before an election. The cap applies seven days before a primary and 21 days before a general election. It is $75,000 for legislative and statewide races and $7,500 for local races. Commission spokesperson Natalie Johnson said the law has not changed, but the commission is concerned it is not enforceable. Some observers warned that the suspension could allow large late infusions of money, while consultants said the effect may be limited this late in the race. How do you view these limits?
