Skyview, La Center to host quarterfinal playoff games

Skyview and La Center each have the good fortune of hosting quarterfinal games in the state high school football playoffs Saturday.

Skyview, a 38-28 winner over Chiawana in the first round in a game played in Pasco, will play host to Lake Stevens at 3 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 19 at Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver. Skyview defeated Lake Stevens 38-14 in the semifinals of the Class 4A state playoffs in 2011. That year, the Storm finished second, losing to Skyline in the state championship game. Skyview has qualified for the 4A state playoffs in eight of the past nine seasons. Lake Stevens has been the in the 4A state tournament field in five of the last six seasons. La Center, ranked sixth in the latest Class 1A Associated Press state poll, will once again have the opportunity to be the home team for a game to be played at Woodland High School. The Wildcats (10-1 on the season) defeated Port Townsend 28-7 in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs last week at Beaver Stadium.

La Center will face Mount Baker at 6 p.m. Sat., Nov. 19 at Woodland High School. Mount Baker eliminated the Wildcats from in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Both teams have been in the state playoffs in five of the  past six seasons. Mount Baker finished second in 2013 and reached the semifinals in 2012. In each of the last two seasons, Mount Baker was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Camas, the No. 1-ranked team in the Class 4A Associated Press state poll, will travel to Skyline for its quarterfinal game. The Papermakers will be in action at 3 p.m., Sat., Nov. 19.
