VANCOUVER — The National Women's Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE) and Washington State University Vancouver students are launching WA Says No More, a campaign that is part of a nationwide movement dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault. The campaign will launch March 9 at the Women's Festival Northwest."For our students to be a part of a statewide movement to end domestic violence and sexual assault is important to our college," said Nanu Iyer, program director of the Integrated Strategic Communication program at WSU Vancouver. "This gives our students an opportunity to get into each community across our state, from Seattle to Spokane and Renton to Yakima, to talk about deeply important issues that affect all of us."Throughout this year, students at WSU Vancouver have been working to bring the No More movement to the state of Washington. "Our state needed the resources and support for those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault, and increased awareness that all communities are affected," said Michelle Bart, president and co-founder of NWCAVE.On any given day in the state of Washington, nearly 3,000 people seek domestic violence services, including advocacy, emergency shelter and information, according to the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Bart has worked with numerous organizations to develop programs to help victims of violence and exploitation and raise awareness of these issues across the United States.As part of Women's History Month, WA Says No More will launch March 9 in the Foster Auditorium at Clark College beginning at 6 p.m. The evening includes a film screening of "The Hunting Ground" and keynote speech by Brenda Tracy, a rape survivor who is portrayed in the film.
