Three-story facility described as ‘277,000 square feet of amazing’
Mountain View High School is reaching for new heights.
A new, three-story building will showcase classrooms, offices, a performing arts center, athletic facilities, and more. It opens to students on Tuesday, the first day of the school year for Evergreen Public Schools.
Students at Mountain View will be inspired by the MV logo in the commons area and the big Thunder T, which lights up, in the courtyard.
“What a great day,” said John Boyd, the superintendent of Evergreen Public Schools at a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. “A brand new building, 277,000 square feet of amazing.”
Charles Anthony, the principal of Mountain View, and other district dignitaries thanked the community for its support of schools. Anthony noted that the community felt the need to ensure the facilities at Mountain View matched the quality education at the school.
“A school is more than just some classrooms,” Anthony said in a video posted by Evergreen Public Schools. “It’s a place where students will strive every day to become the best versions of themselves. … It is my sincere hope that the generations of students who pass through these halls will learn something new and incredible every day.”
Mitch Johnson, the ASB president for this school year, said the sky is the limit at the new Mountain View High School.
Mya Nguyen, the ASB vice president, echoed those thoughts.
“I know this school has always been great,” Nguyen said. “But I know with this new building it has the potential to be even greater.”
Clark County Today got a tour of the new school on Monday.
Construction workers were busy with finishing touches inside the school.
Outside the school, there remains plenty of activity. The old Mountain View High School was demolished this summer. In its place will be new baseball and softball facilities as well as a new parking lot. Students will be directed around the active construction zone and fences have been placed around the site.
