“When I see these numbers, all I feel is gratitude. This is all because of the work of dedicated Washingtonians who were tired of feeling unsafe in their neighborhoods and decided to take action,” said Brian Heywood, in a statement. “This is a momentous victory for the people of Washington State and proves that when they stand up and speak out, they win. This is just the kind of pick-me-up we needed after the rigged ruling about I-2066 and will fuel the fight of the people as we stand up for the rights of parents, kids, and work to protect our state from special interests.”
I-2113 detractors repeatedly tried to claim that car thefts had not increased when police officers lost the ability to pursue criminals, but Washingtonians felt the reality of the situation daily. Now, because hundreds of thousands of residents made their voices heard, Washington State is a safer place to live, work and raise a family. Car thefts are at a 15 year low, and according to the Auto Theft Task Force, 16 vehicles have been recovered, and three arrests with four charges have been made in 2025 alone.
