A great performance from Woodland’s Olivia Grey

Olivia Grey had an incredible weekend, striking out 69 batters in four games to help Woodland to a state softball title.

WOODLAND — The numbers are impressive regardless of the opponents. To do what she did against the best of the best in the state, though, makes her performance that much more worthy of attention. Olivia Grey? How about Olivia Great? A junior from Woodland, Grey struck out 69 batters in 28 innings of work, going 4-0 with an ERA of 1.25. ClarkCountyToday.com is naming Grey its Clutch Performer of Championship Week after she helped Woodland to a Class 2A state softball championship. She is quick to point out, however, how much help she had in Selah. Six Beavers combined to hit 10 home runs in the four games, giving the ace in the pitching circle all the run support she would need. On defense, the Beavers committed just one error in the four games. OK, sure, there were not a lot of opportunities for errors — with all those strikeouts — but these were still pressure-packed games with a state championship on the line. Point is, as good as Grey was, she could not have done this alone. She is our Clutch Performer of the final week of the spring sports season, but she can share that with all of her championship teammates.
