Battle Ground continues difficult Class 4A Greater St. Helens League schedule — ClarkCountyToday.com reporter Paul Valencia’s review of the video from Battle Ground’s Week 1 loss and found some highlights.

Tigers to play host to Skyview Thursday

Battle Ground Tigers (0-6, 0-2 4A GSHL)

Week 1: Beaverton (Ore.) 46, Battle Ground 6 Week 2: Tualatin (Ore.) 53, Battle Ground 0 Week 3: Mountain View 55, Battle Ground 22 Week 4: Prairie 21, Battle Ground 20 Week 5: Camas 35, Battle Ground 0 Week 6: Union 52, Battle Ground 8 Next: vs. Skyview, 7 p.m. Thursday at District Stadium The Tigers got off to a horrendous start against a team that, according to its coach, played its best game of the season.

Touchdown Tigers:

Battle Ground’s players and coaches never stopped working in this game. That is not easy when the score is so lopsided. They were rewarded with a late touchdown. Brock Robinson scored on a 73-yard run. He got some daylight due to a number of good blocks.

Left tackle Drew Skolrud got his man one-on-one. Center Austin Martin and left guard Chase Bray got a nice combo block. Bray then then helped out with a linebacker. Right guard Beckett Honeycutt also got a second-level block. Robinson followed his fullback Noah Barr, who also took out a linebacker. From there Robinson used his speed. Two Union defenders seemed to have angles on him, but Robinson was too fast. The Union guys collided right behind Robinson, and it was all over, a 73-yard touchdown run. The highlight during a tough night for the Tigers.

Coach Speak:

What did Mike Kesler think about Week 6? “I guess they caught us flat-footed in that first quarter. We’ve got to move forward and get better and compete every play of the game. That’s why you play a full game.” MVP on offense: Austin Martin. “Did a great job of pushing the defense back and giving us the opportunity to get some good yardage,” Kesler said. MVP on defense: Noah Barr. “Good job of keeping kids’ composure up and playing hard the whole game,” Kesler said. Thoughts on Week 7 vs. Skyview: “Compete hard and hopefully earn the opportunity to be successful,’’ Kesler said.
