Skyview closes out the season with win over Heritage

Skyview had a winning football season for the 12th straight year but the Storm will not advance to the playoffs.

Storm posted a winning season for 12th consecutive year

Even though it was not a playoff season, it was a winning season.

Heart of a champion:

Don’t have to be the champions to have a heart of a champion. The Skyview Storm feel like they blew it with a huge opportunity in Week 6 when they lost to Camas despite putting up more than 500 yards of offense on the best program in Southwest Washington history. Then in Week 8, Union came into Kiggins Bowl and simply dominated the Storm. That ended Skyview’s long string of playoff seasons. For a lot of teams accustomed to playing in November, having to practice and play a meaningless game in October, with nothing to look forward to, well, it had the recipe for a lackluster performance. Instead, Skyview pride showed up. “I’m pretty proud of the way they bounced back. It was a tough week (after losing to Union),,” Skyview coach Steve Kizer said. “But from Saturday through Friday (of Week 9) they did everything that they were supposed to do. They practiced hard. They prepared. Not a whole lot to play for, and they had a great week of practice.” Then the Storm rushed for almost 300 yards and put up more than 500 yards of offense in the win over Heritage. That gave Skyview a 5-4 record, which means one streak remains with the Storm: They now have 12 consecutive winning regular seasons. MVP on offense in Week 9: Kizer went went offensive lineman Jevon Kelly. “What a great effort. Just an awesome lineman. He’s as good as anyone we’ve ever had.” MVP on defense in Week 9: Linebacker Austin Nolan had a “heckuva game” which included having to cover wide receivers on deep passes. Thoughts on the season: “Disappointing that we didn’t win any of the big games, neither of the two games we needed to win,” Kizer said. “That’s kind of how it goes. Frustrating, I guess. “I don’t want to be feeling like this again.”
