As a Clark County citizen in District 5, in north county, I believe it’s time for leadership that understands the government should live within its means, respect taxpayers, and focus on the essential services our communities actually need. That is why I support Peter Silliman’s efforts to serve District 5 on the Clark County Council.
I have come to know Peter as a man of integrity and principle and a solid leader in our community. What stands out to me is his commitment to responsible government not simply talking about change, but doing the work.
Peter currently serves as an elected District 5 Charter Review Commissioner. During his service, he has co-sponsored two amendments with Commissioner John Jay.
Amendment 25 would require a supermajority of at least four of the five County Council members to approve a new council tax or increase the rate of an existing council tax, rather than allowing such action by a simple three vote majority.
Peter also co-sponsored Amendment 24, the Housing Impact Analysis, which would require Clark County to publicly analyze how proposed changes to land use or construction codes could affect land supply and construction costs before those changes are adopted.
Peter was lead sponsor on charter amendment 20 which would provide a revised county budget adoption process to provide more accountability, transparency, and public participation in the process.
Peter was the lead sponsor on Charter amendment 27 which would give the county council the ability to audit departments and programs. Audits have a record of producing improved efficiency and effectiveness.
These proposals give voters concrete examples of the policies Peter has supported during his service on the Charter Review Commission.
His broader vision for Clark County includes protecting important habitat without unnecessarily burdening property owners, encouraging agriculture and forestry, improving the permitting environment for housing and job creation, and following through on parks and trails the county has previously promised to its citizens.
For me, one of the biggest issues is taxes. Families are already feeling the pressure of rising costs, and I do not want to see irresponsible tax increases become the answer every time the county government wants more money. We need councilors willing to scrutinize spending, ask tough questions, and remember whose money the government is spending in the first place.
I believe Peter Silliman would bring that perspective to the County Council. District 5 deserves representation that values public safety, private property, transparency, fiscal responsibility, and thoughtful growth while preserving what makes our rural communities special.
Building a better Clark County doesn’t always require the government to do more. It requires the government to spend smarter, listen better, keep its promises and know when to get out of the way. That's the kind of change I'm ready to see in District 5. Let's keep Clark County a place where our families, farms, businesses and our wallets can all thrive. We must participate in our local elections, vote for Peter Silliman.
