Hockinson defeated Columbia River in Class 2A Greater St. Helens League football action Friday at Columbia River High School. The Hawks will play host to Woodland next week in a matchup of two undefeated teams.

Hawks to play host to undefeated Woodland next week

VANCOUVER — The Hockinson Hawks acknowledged they were rattled a bit Friday night at Columbia River High School. Then they went into halftime, talked about it, and came out in the second half like the defending state champions.

Levi Crum threw for 398 yards and six touchdowns, leading Hockinson to a 42-6 victory over the Chieftains. It was a 14-6 game at the half. “They had a good defensive game plan against us,’’ said Hockinson coach Rick Steele. “Our kids got a little bit rattled. I had to get them calmed down.’’ Steele said he was impressed with Crum’s ability to refocus. “In the second half, we started playing like we can play and ran away with it,’’ Steele said. Peyton Brammer had 10 catches for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Sawyer Racanelli had 13 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown. Aidan Mallory and Garrett Gundy each had one touchdown reception.  

  Columbia River scored first, but the Hockinson defense was up to the challenge the rest of the way. “I’m very happy with the defense, they (Chieftains) just couldn’t get anything going running or throwing,’’ Steele said. Hockinson will play host to Woodland next week. Both teams are 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in Class 2A Greater St. Helens League play.
