Construction leads to major lane changes on Interstate 5 bridge over the Columbia River
Clark County Today wanted to provide a first-hand look at the work done on the Interstate Bridge this weekend as Clark County and Oregon drivers prepare for major changes for their commutes Monday.
The plan is to have two lanes going south and one lane going north on Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, that will switch to two lanes north and one south.
Regardless, drivers should expect delays as repairs to the bridge have closed all three lanes that are normally used for northbound traffic.
The closure is expected to last through Sept. 27.
Beyond the lane changes, there are several on-ramps closed near the bridge, both in Washington and in Oregon. There is no access to I-5 southbound from Highway 14. The downtown Vancouver onramp at West 5th Street and Washington Street is also blocked off by a barricade.
On Sunday, Dana Hodge, who works for C&C Flagging, was stationed there directing traffic to the detours. She was also there to move the barricades for buses and construction vehicles, when necessary.
More safety crew members were on the bridge to caution pedestrians and bicyclists, reminding them that they need to share the walkway.
