VANCOUVER – Travelers who use Interstate 5 between Ridgefield and Woodland should expect nighttime lane closures and delays.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 14, Washington State Department of Transportation contractor Granite Construction Company will replace several broken concrete panels in the driving lanes of I-5. Work will take place in both directions between milepost 9.5 near Northeast 179th Street and milepost 21.5, just north of Exit 21.
Concrete panels are large, flat pieces that make up the highway’s driving surface. Over time, heavy traffic and weather can cause them to crack and sink creating a bumpy driving surface. Replacing damaged panels keeps the road smooth and helps extend the life of the highway.
What to expect
Northbound I-5
- From 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 14 to 7:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 20: The right and center lanes of northbound I-5 will close each night between East Fork Lewis River Bridge (milepost 18.2) to just north of Exit 21 (milepost 21.5).
Southbound I-5
- From 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18 to 7:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 20: The right and center lanes of southbound I-5 will close each night between the weigh-in-motion scale (milepost 15.4) and the State Route 502 interchange (milepost 11.5).
For everyone’s safety, the speed limit in both directions of I-5 has been reduced from 70 mph to 55 mph, through the work zone. Please slow down, move over for crews, and expect delays.
