There are no official seedings for Washington high school football Week 10 playoff games.
However, if you know, you know.
Pretty much, if your team was selected to host a Week 10 playoff game, the powers that be believe your team is in the upper half of the remaining teams in the postseason in each classification.
Clark County has 10 teams still playing football, and four will be playing home games in Week 10. The winners of the Week 10 games will advance to the state playoffs.
After Week 10, official seeding committees will meet to determine the 16 — or in some cases, 12 — seeds for the various classifications.
There are also various computer rankings and media sites that rank teams throughout Washington. For the purposes of this story, we will use the popular Evans Rankings from Matt Evans.
Here are the 10 teams from Clark County, including Woodland.
Class 4A
The Skyview Storm completed their 9-0 campaign with a win over Union on Friday. With two wins over Camas this season, the computer has Skyview at No. 4 in Class 4A football.
The Storm will host No. 32 Bethel at 7 p.m. Friday at Kiggins Bowl.
Should Skyview prevail, the expectation is Skyview would also get a home game in the first round of the state playoffs.
The Camas Papermakers went 6-3 this season, with the three losses to No. 4 Skyview (twice) and No. 5 Chiawana. The Evans Rankings has Camas at No. 17. The Papermakers will travel to take on No. 16 Olympia.
Class 3A
The Evergreen Plainsmen battled Friday night, but came up just short against Kelso for the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League title. Instead, the Plainsmen settled for second place, going 4-1 in league, 6-3 overall. The rankings have Evergreen at No. 27 in Class 3A. The Plainsmen will travel to No. 9 Meadowdale at 7 p.m. Friday at Edmonds Woodway District Stadium.
Class 2A
Four teams from the 2A GSHL have made it to the postseason. One got a home game in Week 10.
The Woodland Beavers went 6-2 overall and won the North Division to earn a league championship. That’s the third league title in the past four seasons for the Beavers. Woodland is ranked No. 11 by Evans. The Beavers will host No. 19 Bainbridge.
Hockinson stunned Washougal on Friday to claim the South Division title to win its first league championship since 2019. (Or, 2020 in the abbreviated pandemic season.) Hockinson’s victory on Friday gave the program a winning regular season at 5-4. The Hawks are No. 34 with Evans. They will travel to take on No. 3 Archbishop Murphy.
Washougal fell to 4-5 overall with Friday’s loss. The Panthers are No. 31 with Evans. Washougal will hit the road to face No. 10 Franklin Pierce.
Ridgefield struggled in Friday’s game for the North title against Woodland but had already clinched a playoff spot. The Spudders are No. 32 with Evans. Ridgefield will be on the road against No. 5 Prosser.
Class 1A
A very intriguing situation for Southwest Washington 1A. Seton Catholic won the Trico League and has a 6-2 overall record. La Center finished second with the same overall record. The computer has La Center ranked higher than Seton Catholic, though. If both teams win in Week 10, it will be very interesting where the humans on the seeding committee put these teams. Of course, they both have to win first.
Let’s start with the league champions.
Seton Catholic has won six in a row and just won its third consecutive league championship. Evans has the Cougars at No. 11. Seton Catholic will host No. 13 Connell. That game is a 5 p.m. kickoff at Seton Catholic on Friday.
La Center is No. 8 with Evans. La Center will host No. 20 Cascade (Leavenworth) at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The Class 1A state bracket is 12 teams. The top four would get a bye in Week 11. That means the next four teams get a home game. Is it possible Seton Catholic and/or La Center get a home game should they win this week? Yes, but there will be some tough decisions to be made by the seeding committee.
This year, five teams from the Trico advanced to the 24-team Week 10 games. King’s Way Christian finished fifth with two league wins. The Knights, 2-7 overall, are No. 41 in the rankings. They will travel to face No. 1 Royal, the winners of the past six state championships.
Cross Country: The state championships for cross country will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
All classifications will compete in various races throughout the day.
In Class 4A, the Camas boys won the bi-district team championship this past weekend.
In Class 3A, the Prairie boys and the Prairie girls won the district team championships last week.
In Class 2A, the Ridgefield boys and Ridgefield girls won the team district titles last week.
In Class 1A, the Seton Catholic boys won the district team title, and the La Center girls won the district team title.
