Sportsman’s Public House will celebrate its centennial in Ridgefield, as well as debut a new menu, on Friday, Sept. 25 from 2 p.m. until closing.
The event will also feature vendors, giveaways, and karaoke starting at 8 p.m.
“This occasion will also serve as an opportunity to express our profound gratitude to the community for its unwavering support of Sportsman’s and its rich history,”
General Manager Candace Joiner stated in an email. “I extend my sincere appreciation to my dedicated staff for their hard work and commitment over the years. We consider ourselves more than just a team; we are a family, and our collective efforts are instrumental to Sportsman’s daily operations.”
“Over its century-long history, the establishment has been under the stewardship of five different owners,” Joiner continued. “Michael Schnidrig [is] the current owner of Sportsman’s since 2018. The preceding owner, Terry [Hurd], was responsible for the renovation that transformed Sportsman’s into a restaurant with an additional annex.”
Before its restaurant conversion in 1926, the pub was a Model T auto shop. The iconic 18th-century back bar — originally from a ship, according to Sportsman’s lore — is a piece of history. The building itself is a local historic landmark, and witness to many changes in both the business and the surrounding city.
