Women from Amboy and the surrounding communities are being invited to learn more about the potential formation of a new American Legion Auxiliary unit in affiliation with American Legion Tum Tum Post 168.
The American Legion Auxiliary is a nonprofit, patriotic service organization dedicated to supporting veterans, active-duty military, and their families. For more than a century, Auxiliary members nationwide have served through volunteerism, youth mentorship, scholarships, advocacy for veterans’ benefits, and programs that promote patriotism, citizenship, and community service.
My name is Andi Schwartz, and I have begun the chartering process to explore the formation of a local Auxiliary unit that would work alongside Tum Tum Post 168. I currently serve as chaplain for the American Legion Riders Tum Tum Post 168, which has given me a close connection to the Legion family and its mission of service.
Eligibility for the American Legion Auxiliary includes women who are family members of eligible veterans, including mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and direct or adopted female descendants, as well as spouses of eligible veterans of any gender, and women veterans who qualify for membership in their own right.
Our goal is to establish an Auxiliary unit that works cooperatively with Tum Tum Post 168 to expand outreach, support veteran and military families, encourage youth involvement, and serve the broader Amboy-area community. Eligible individuals from Amboy and nearby areas who are interested in service and connection are encouraged to learn more.
An informational interest meeting will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 11:30 a.m., immediately following the Post meeting, at American Legion Tum Tum Post 168, 21400 NE 399th Street, Amboy. This is a no-obligation meeting intended to explain what the Auxiliary is, who is eligible to join, how a new unit is formed, and what participation can look like locally.
Community support is how Auxiliaries are built. Those who may be eligible, or who are simply curious, are encouraged to attend or share this information with others.
