I am a Ridgefield resident concerned about the Port of Ridgefield’s proposed waterfront redevelopment alongside the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
I am concerned about the scale and intensity of the proposed development and its potential impacts on wildlife, habitat, noise, lighting, additional traffic, wetlands and the character of our community. As a volunteer at the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge, I see firsthand how much this wildlife sanctuary means to both Ridgefield residents and visitors. I also get to interact with Ridgefield citizens on a consistent basis at the Refuge who are concerned and opposed to the development proposed as it currently stands.
I understand that the Port of Ridgefield needs to generate revenue at the riverfront. However the amount and density of what is proposed is concerning for the residents or Ridgefield, infrastructure of the town as well as the wildlife it will undoubtedly impact on a major migratory path for millions of birds each year.
I am asking you to investigate this proposal, the potential environmental impacts, and the concerns raised by Ridgefield residents. I believe this project deserves thorough public scrutiny and environmental review before major decisions are made. Once the development is started and construction can begin it will be too late. Time is running out.
