One major goal achieved: Through two weeks, the Trappers have not been assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty. That might not seem like a big deal, but it is to the Trappers. The Trappers want to one day earn the respect of opponents with their performances. But they know they can earn the respect of opponents each week with the way they play the game. What did the coach learn about his team in Week 2? “It was disappointing, no doubt about that,’’ Broussard said. “But we continue to show signs of just grit. It’s the little things, the small details. We’re trying to teach them about the game. They are receptive.” Coaching staff’s pick for MVP on offense: Freshman Devyn Turner played quarterback for the Trappers. “He showed some moxie, leadership qualities that I liked,” Broussard said. “He was the unsung MVP.” Coaching staff’s pick for MVP on the defense: Defensive lineman Ezekiel Block. “He did some good things as far as assignment wise and effort wise,” the coach said. “He was the one who stood out. We played pretty good in the second half.” Thoughts on Week 3 at Hoquiam: “Good skill guys, with a running back who can hurt you. He’s shifty. Pretty good team.” Broussard said he wants his team “just to compete” and try to eliminate the turnovers.
