The district is seeking volunteers to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee and two curriculum adoption committees

Battle Ground Public Schools has several opportunities for people to provide their input into student learning and district initiatives. The district is seeking volunteers to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee and two curriculum adoption committees.

Citizens Advisory Committee

Members of the district's Citizens Advisory Committee lend their voices to school programs, policies and issues through an advisory role to the superintendent and school board.

The committee is comprised of 30-40 members, from business, municipal and faith-based leaders to parents, guardians and senior citizens. Meetings take place on the second Thursday of the month, September through April, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

To apply, please fill out an application by Aug. 25, 2023. Selected applicants will be notified via email by early September and will receive information about the first meeting.

Curriculum adoption committees

The district also is seeking volunteers to review and provide input on curricula for two subject areas:

  • Science curricula for grades 6-12
  • Social studies curricula for grades 9-12

Applicants will be selected in a two-step process:

  1. Complete the BGPS curriculum adoption committees application form. The form must be filled out no later than Aug. 28, 2023.
  2. Possible follow-up interview for the finalists from step 1. The district anticipates selecting committee members by Sept. 11. 

For each committee, the district will select three parents/guardians/community members, in addition to teachers and administrators. 

Each committee will meet up to eight times. 

  • All science meetings will be held on Tuesdays, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., between Sept. 26, 2023, and April 23, 2024. 
  • All social studies meetings will be held on Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., between Sept. 28, 2023, and April 25, 2024. 

Members will be expected to complete "homework" outside of meetings. Participants are also expected to attend some board meetings, likely in May and June.
