Tigers try to rebound after heartbreaking loss to district-rival Prairie

Week 1: Beaverton (Ore.) 46, Battle Ground 6 Week 2: Tualatin (Ore.) 53, Battle Ground 0 Week 3: Mountain View 55, Battle Ground 22 Week 4: Prairie 21, Battle Ground 20 Next: Camas at Battle Ground This one could haunt the Tigers all season. They know they had this one. Battle Ground dominated the statistics, but fell a point short on the scoreboard.

Credit to the linemen:

A shout-out to the Battle Ground offensive line for leading the Tigers to 335 yards rushing. Austin Martin, Beckett Honeycutt, Drew Skolrud, Chase Bray, and Aksel Fridriksson were among the linemen who created the holes for that attack. In all, Battle Ground put up 382 yards of offense. Running back Brock Robinson was amazing, too, finding those holes and breaking tackles on his way to 275 yards rushing.

Defense solid, too:

On the scoreboard, the Prairie Falcons scored three touchdowns. The Battle Ground defense is, in a way, responsible for only one of those scores. Battle Ground tried a surprise onside kick. The surprise was on the Tigers, though. Prairie recovered it and ran it back for a touchdown. Later a punt went awry, setting up Prairie in the red zone for a short touchdown drive. Prairie was held to 55 yards through three quarters.

What did Mike Kesler learn about his team in Week 4? “That we can play hard and run the offense. I think our kids never gave up. Unfortunately on that last drive, we were in position to make some plays but just didn’t make them.” MVP on offense: Brock Robinson. “He ran hard, and he ran through some would-be tacklers and just kept it going north and south,” Kesler said. MVP on defense: Noah Barr. Middle linebacker was solid stopping the run. Thoughts on Week 5 vs. Camas: “Continue to get better and play hard and believe in themselves,” Kesler said.
