Officially described as altocumulus with virga, the clouds look a lot like jellyfish

It is rare to see a jellyfish in the wild.
Especially in the Clark County skies
Well, not exactly a jellyfish. But the clouds that passed over the region on Tuesday sure looked like jellyfish.
Clark County Today reader Diane Stevens took some photographs of the unusual looking clouds on Tuesday, and she shared them with us.
Turns out, she was not the only one fixated on the clouds.
The Portland office of the National Weather Service noted that these clouds are “altocumulus with virga.” Then later explained that virga describes the streaks seen beneath the clouds. The NWS said that is actually rain falling from the clouds, rain that evaporates long before it reaches the ground.
Altocumulus with virga sounds fancy. We prefer jellyfish clouds. Not as fancy, but fun to admire.
