The building was unoccupied and no one was injured
At 1:39 a.m. Tuesday morning, Vancouver Fire Department units were dispatched to the report of a smoke detector activation at 8819 NE 117th Ave. in Vancouver.
While enroute, reports were received that it was a structure fire in a commercial building and the call was upgraded to a second alarm. The first-arriving fire engine found heavy fire coming from the building. Fire suppression began immediately, and the building was eventually surrounded by firefighters. Additional openings were made on the front and back of the building to remove smoke and facilitate firefighting operations.
“We were able to keep the fire contained to the occupancy of origin,’’ stated Vancouver Fire Captain Raymond Egan.
The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour. The building was unoccupied. No one was injured. The Clark County Fire Marshal's office is investigating the scene.
“At the height of the incident, we had eight fire engines, two ladder trucks, four battalion chiefs, training captains and medical coverage provided by American Medical Response,’’ Egan said. “Two of the engines belonged to our partners at Fire District 6 and Fire District 3. We thank them for their support.
“Please remember to check your smoke detectors on a regular basis to ensure proper operation,’’ Egan said.
