Six evacuated homes were able to be immediately re-occupied once the fire was extinguished
At 2:36 p.m. Monday (June 5), crews from the Vancouver Fire Department reported that several tall trees as well as a large shop were on fire near 6619 NE 56th Way in Vancouver. The blaze was starting to catch several homes on fire and threatening to jump Andresen Blvd. due to the strong eastern wind.
A total of nine suppression units from Vancouver Fire and Fire District 6 responded to the scene along with six command staff. A reverse 9-1-1 system was used to evacuate endangered homes.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish all fires from three different pumping fire engines. Crews then surveyed the neighborhood to make sure the wind did not spread the fire any farther. All evacuated homes were able to be immediately re-occupied once the fire was out. No one was injured.
Due to the high wind, Vancouver Fire deployed several additional fire engines to augment its regular staffing.
Vancouver Fire officials would like to remind everyone to have a defensible space around your house. Make sure the grass and trees near your house are trimmed. Make sure your gutters and roofs are clean and free of debris like dried natural vegetation.
