The suspect was located and arrested on Thursday (March 6) in Northeast Portland
CAMAS – On May 19, 2024 at about 5:43 a.m., masked subjects in a stolen Ford truck attempted to steal an outdoor ATM from the Riverview Community Bank located at 450 NE 3rd Ave, Camas.
Using the truck, a heavy chain and a tow hook, they pulled the ATM off its concrete base. The subjects attempted to break into the ATM vault but were unsuccessful, and did not obtain any currency. They fled in the stolen truck moments before police arrived. The damage they caused was extensive and was estimated to be more than $80,000. Also, it was later determined there was over $30,000 inside the ATM at the time of the incident.
The incident was investigated by the Camas Police Investigations Unit, who processed the scene at the bank and the stolen truck when it was found abandoned at the 100 block of SE King St., Camas. Collected items of evidence were sent to the Washington State Patrol crime lab for processing.
Camas detectives were able to identify one the subjects in the attempted felony Theft and felony Malicious Mischief as Robert Brooks, a 46-year-old Portland resident. With the assistance of other local area law enforcement partners, Brooks was located and arrested on Thursday (March 6) in Northeast Portland. He was booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center and is awaiting extradition back to Clark County.
