Four Clark County high school teams reach state quarterfinals in girls soccer tournaments

Camas, Columbia River, King’s Way Christian join Prairie in girls soccer quarterfinals
A winning night continued a winning week for several Clark County high school girls soccer programs.Camas, Columbia River, and King’s Way Christian all won first-round matches Wednesday night, advancing to the state quarterfinals in their classifications. They join Prairie, which won Tuesday, in the elite eight.The Camas Papermakers, which have reached at least the final four the past three seasons, took down Jackson 1-0 at Doc Harris Stadium on Wednesday in the opening round of the Class 4A tournament. Maddie Kemp, the career leader in goals scored for the Papermakers, found the net off an assist by Callie Rheume.The Camas defense found its groove, getting another shutout. The Papermakers closed out the regular season with shutouts in eight of their final 10 matches. Camas will take on Bellarmine Prep in the quarterfinals. The match is 2 p.m. Saturday at Doc Harris Stadium.Columbia River, which won the state title in 2016 and finished second last season, opened the Class 2A state tournament with a 1-0 win over Olympic.Shalece Easley scored in the eighth minute of the match Wednesday, and that was enough for the Columbia River defense.The Chieftains will take on Fife in the quarterfinals at Kiggins Bowl. As of Thursday morning, the time of the match had not been confirmed.In another 1-0 decision, King’s Way Christian avenged a loss from last year’s playoffs, shutting out Seattle Academy. The Knights advanced to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive season. Last year, though, Seattle Academy knocked out the Knights. This time, the other way around.Bethany Hutchin got the first-half goal, and the Knights made it stand. King’s Way Christian will host King’s on Saturday in the quarterfinals.Those three Wednesday victories came after Prairie’s win on Tuesday to advance in Class 3A. The Falcons got two goals from Malaika Quigley in a 3-0 win over Shorecrest.
