No state championships for area runners this season
PASCO — The Camas girls cross country team came close to a state title.The La Center girls cross country team was even a bit closer to a state title.But it was Daniel Maton of Camas who came the closest to a state title this weekend.Maton missed the individual title at the Class 4A boys race by two-tenths of a second. Ryan Kline of Central Valley clocked in at 15 minutes, 11.3 seconds, with Maton right behind at 15:11.5.A senior for the Papermakers, Maton had the top individual finish from Clark County among all the boys and girls races in all classifications at the cross country championships in Pasco on Saturday.The Camas girls finished second to Lewis and Clark in the 4A girls team race. Lewis and Clark came in with 74 points, and Camas recorded 83. Skyview, meanwhile, finished fourth.Emma Jenkins was the top Camas finisher, placing fourth. Ellen Burbank of Skyview took 13th.In the 4A boys, Maton’s second-place finish helped Camas to a fourth-place spot in the team race.In the 1A girls, La Center finished three points from first place. Colville scored 114 with La Center taking second at 117. Natasha Lewis was the top finisher for La Center, placing 11th.Washougal’s Amelia Pullen had the top finish among girls from Clark County. She finished third in the 2A race, helping Washougal finish 11th in the team standings.In the 2A boys, Kyle Radosevich of Ridgefield finished sixth. The Spudders took seventh as a team. Gabriel Dinnell of Washougal placed 14th.In the 3A girls race, Meri Dunford of Prairie had a top-15 finish, crossing the line in 11th place.
