WSDOT is teaming with the city of Vancouver, the Oregon Department of Transportation, C-TRAN and the Port of Vancouver to share information about several upcoming projects
VANCOUVER — Community members are invited to attend an open house to learn about future improvements planned along southbound Interstate 5 and State Route 501/Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver.
Growth and development is contributing to increased traffic backups and delays. In response, the Washington State Department of Transportation is teaming with the city of Vancouver, the Oregon Department of Transportation, C-TRAN and the Port of Vancouver to share information about several upcoming projects designed to help keep traffic moving safely, improve freight access and reduce congestion.
- Corridor modifications on SR 501/Mill Plain Boulevard between the Port of Vancouver and I-5: Improvements include replacing traffic signals, reconstructing sections of the roadway to allow for long loads, upgrading pedestrian ramps, and adding buffered bike lanes.
- Southbound I-5 Active Traffic Management/Ramp Meters: Technology upgrades include a combination of new traffic cameras, roadway sensors, electronic message signs and adaptive ramp meters at the southbound I-5 on ramps from 78th Street, Main Street, State Route 500/39th Street, Fourth Plain Boulevard and Mill Plain Boulevard, along with upgrades to the existing ramp meter at SR 14/Washington Street.
- Southbound I-5 Bus on Shoulder: To provide more reliable transit travel times, improvements will be made to the left shoulder of southbound I-5 between 99th Street and the Interstate Bridge for C-TRAN bus use during the peak morning commute hours.
- Northbound I-5 Interstate Bridge Trunnion Replacement: The northbound span of the Interstate Bridge will close for up to two weeks in Sept. 2020, as crews replace mechanical parts that help lift and lower the bridge.
