Brady Whalen, a Cardinals prospect, leads Peoria in RBIs
He was drafted as a shortstop, then moved to third base, and now he is a first baseman.
Tonight, he will be an all-star first baseman.
Brady Whalen, a former Union Titan, will represent the Peoria Chiefs in the Midwest League All-Star Game tonight in South Bend, Indiana.
Whalen, a 2016 graduate of Union, was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
“With Brady, you always knew all of the potential was there,” said his high school coach Ben McGrew. “Good to see it all coming together with him.”
Whalen has 45 RBIs to lead the Chiefs this season. He is third in the league in that category.
McGrew said he remains in touch with Brady, who often comes by Union during the offseason.
“He’s a pretty charismatic guy. When he’s around, the kids love it,” McGrew said.
McGrew coached Brady in high school and coached his brothers Caleb and Seaver in summer ball. Caleb played minor league ball and is now retired. Seaver is in the Midwest League along with Brady, playing for Bowling Green.
The Midwest League is full season Class A baseball.
