All-league teams, plus a highlight to the 11 athletes who qualified for state
The WIAA’s state championships for tennis are scheduled for the spring. However, the regular season for boys tennis players in Southwest Washington is in the fall.Defending Class 4A state champion Andrew Kabacy of Skyview is set to return to defend that title. Photo courtesy of Skyview High SchoolNo way we wanted to wait until the spring to celebrate the local athletes who will be representing Clark County schools at state.Defending Class 4A state champion Andrew Kabacy of Skyview is set to return to defend that title. He defeated Battle Ground’s Gunnar Harlan in the bi-district tournament finals last weekend. Both qualified for state.In doubles, Alex Calpagiu and Quinn Lamey of Union qualified for state, as did Chris Sheppert and Joey Gaylor of Skyview.In the Class 3A bi-district, Mountain View advanced two doubles teams to state. Edmund Hsu and Vincent Hsu teamed up for one spot in the state bracket. Josh Kim and Liu Abuiazzah teamed up for another. Ridgefield’s Spencer Cultice is the lone Clark County tennis player to make it to state in Class 2A. He finished second in the 2A District 4 singles tournament.The girls regular season in Southwest Washington is in the spring. The state championships will be held May 25 and 26. The 4A tournament is in Richland, the 3A tournament is in Kennewick, and the 2A tournament is in Seattle.As far as the 4A district tournament last month, Kabacy was the singles champion and Calpagiu and Lamey won the doubles title.At 3A district, Evan Prentice of Prairie was the singles champion. The Mountain View team of Hsu and Hsu won the doubles title.Here are the All-league teams for the 4A, 3A, and 2A GSHLs:
