Papermakers won boys title, finished second in girls; plus other area results
It was no surprise.
The Camas boys cross country team was this good all season.
The coaches ranked them No. 1 in the state for a reason.
Still, when the job got done Saturday, when the results were tabulated, it was a wow moment.
The Papermakers did not just win. They crushed it, taking home the team title at the WIAA Class 4A state boys cross country championships in Pasco.
Four runners finished in the top 20 overall. There were 165 competitors on the course. Camas’ best five finished in the top 29.
It led to a team score of 53 points, the best team score in the 4A boys meet since 2013.
Evan Jenkins finished fourth overall to lead the Papermakers. Sam Geiger (sixth), Luc Utheza (16th), Spencer Twyman (20th) and Austin Weese (29th) also scored for the Papermakers.
That Camas training and talent is special all across the board, too. The Camas girls finished second. Halle Jenkins finished 12th overall to lead Camas’ squad.
The top individual finishers from Clark County were Allyson Peterson of Hockinson (2A girls) and Lara Carrion of Seton Catholic (1A girls), who both finished third in their races.
The La Center girls finished third in the 1A team competition.
