Battle Ground to close out the season with a non-league game Friday

Battle Ground will attempt to win its first game of the season when the Tigers play host to Davis Friday.

Intelligent play, then physical play:

Heritage had a third-down play and called for a screen pass. Aksel Fridriksson and Gage Young were not fooled. As soon as they realized they were not being blocked, then backed away from going after the quarterback and ran toward the running back, the intended receiver. The Heritage QB wisely did not throw the ball and instead was tackled for little or no gain. That led to a punt. Battle Ground got the ball and went 87 yards on 12 plays - all running plays. Gotta give credit to the physical offensive line play on that drive, featuring Fridriksson, Drew Skolrud, Chase Bray, Beckett Honeycutt, and Austin Martin.

Fun play:

Battle Ground went to a trick play and picked up 30 yards when running back Brock Robinson completed a pass to Isaiah Cummings. The ball was tipped but Cumming secured it on the way down, falling hard on his back.

Big sack:

One again, Fridriksson was all over the Battle Ground highlight video. In the third quarter, he got one of those “Oooooh” sacks. The crowd went “Ooooh” after Fridriksson blasted the quarterback. That led to a punt. This time, Battle Ground would go 97 yards for a touchdown and a 21-14 lead, the last 48 on a TD run from Robinson.

Almost there:

By the way, Robinson is closing in on a milestone. With one game left on the schedule, Robinson has 995 yards rushing.

Next:

No team should have to endure a winless season. The Tigers have come close in two games this season, falling by a point to Prairie and then by a touchdown to Heritage. Now, it is the team’s last chance. Davis is traveling from Yakima, bringing a 1-7 record to Battle Ground.
