BATTLE GROUND — At the crossroads between classroom and newsroom, the Fall

2026 issue of Your Battle Ground Public Schools is now available.

Written, edited and designed entirely by students, Your BGPS brings firsthand student perspectives to local education reporting, offering readers a closer look at initiatives and achievements that are often overlooked by people outside of the day-to-day school environment.

The latest issue, built around the theme “Working Better Together,” highlights the success of students from several schools. Readers can follow the Battle Ground High School band through six weeks of preparation leading to its first Friday Night Lights performance, revisit 50 years of learning at Pleasant Valley, explore how students at Tukes Valley are leading a real business from their STEM enhancement class, and discover other school initiatives. The issue also includes a personal reflection from Superintendent Shelly Whitten, a Battle Ground High School alumna, on the people who helped shape her journey from student to district leader.

Now in its fourth issue, Your BGPS began in 2025 as a project in a Tukes Valley Middle School yearbook class. Its name was inspired by an earlier publication that appeared in The Reflector from 2009 to 2013. The reinvented magazine has since grown into a recurring, districtwide student publication, with each issue documenting student achievements, school programs, and community stories.

The Fall 2026 edition was produced by Managing Editor Rye Geilenfeldt, an eighth-grade student at Tukes Valley Middle School, and Associate Editor Paisley Dunn, a freshman at Battle

Ground High School, with guidance from staff adviser Amy Hanson.

Through its detailed student-led reporting and intentional photojournalism, Your BGPS offers a perspective on Battle Ground schools shaped by the students who experience them firsthand.
