WASHOUGAL – On Tuesday (Sept. 8) at approximately 1:15 p.m., a small aircraft crashed at Grove Field. The pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and was not injured.
Grove Field is currently open. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have completed their investigation of the incident and have cleared the airport.
East County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to the incident about 15 minutes after the crash. The biplane crashed, next door to ECFR Station 91, shortly after takeoff. The pilot reported seeing smoke in the cabin and returned to the airfield, where the aircraft flipped during landing.
