Thank God the “good guy with a gun” broke the foolish laws passed five years ago by Bend Schools because he saved lives at Silver Rail Elementary.

The man shot and neutralized a 16-year-old who had used a pump-action shotgun to kill three young students and a teacher.
Reports say the “good guy” is the father of a student at the school.
My family's prayers go out to those who lost their loved ones at Silver Rail and to those with critical injuries from an incident that didn’t need to happen.
But I’m angry today with the crazy anti-gun policies that make all these schools more dangerous.
For one-third of a century, Oregon law made concealed carry at schools legal for law-abiding citizens just like yesterday’s “good guy with a gun.”
Even teachers could carry.
When I spoke to school groups, I always carried a gun.
Five years ago, Bend Schools banned concealed carry and made it a crime punishable by a year in prison.
The Crime Prevention Research Center points out that 94 percent of mass shootings in America happen in " gun-free zones," like Silver Rail Elementary.
It's well documented that killers search for those gun-free zones.
I think we can be reasonably sure the good guy won’t face charges.
But the existence of the law and the flawed thinking behind it put schools in Oregon at greater risk of exactly what happened yesterday.
