Ceremony to honor prisoners of war and those who never returned from battle will be held at Armed Forces Center in Vancouver
The Community Military Appreciation Committee is inviting the community to join in recognizing National POW/MIA Day with a ceremony Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Vancouver.
CMAC will remember and honor Americans who were prisoners of war and those who served and never returned home.
Retired Army Col. Larry J. Smith and Retired Air Force Col. Mike Burton will be the master of ceremonies. Speakers will include: Lt. Col. Andrew Plassmeyer, as well as Sarah Fox, a member of the Vancouver city council. The keynote speaker will be Gwen Davis, a sister of Harley Hall, the last prisoner of war in Vietnam.
There will also be a dove release and a wreath laying. A Missing Man table will be assembled, too.
CMAC is an all-inclusive group composed of members representing youth, education, civic, military, veteran groups, and local governments.
The Armed Forces Reserve Center is located at 15005 NE 65th Street. It is also the site of Clark County’s POW/MIA monument.
