On August 26, 2026, shortly after 1 p.m., the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to a disturbance with a weapon in the 4100 block of NE St. Johns Road.
Deputies arrived and located an 18-year-old male with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
CCSO detectives are actively investigating the shooting as a homicide. Preliminary information indicates a firearm was discharged inside a townhouse, striking the victim. The suspect then left the scene in a vehicle with the firearm.
Detectives have identified the suspect as 19-year-old Cash D. Cavett, who may have most recently lived in the Portland area.
Cavett is believed to have fled in a dark-colored 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, possibly displaying Washington license plate CFK9566. A photo of the vehicle is attached.
The suspect is not believed to be in the immediate area. Detectives believe the victim and suspect knew each other, and there is currently no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.
The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.
