Battle Ground Police Officer arrested 35-year-old Raymond Baca on Robbery I charges on Friday.
At about 1:35 p.m. Friday (Feb. 21), Battle Ground Police officers responded to the report of an armed robbery that occurred at the Walmart store, located in the 1200 block of SW 15th Avenue.
Store employees reported witnessing a male suspect attempting to exit the store with a shopping cart filled with approximately $1,500 in unpaid merchandise. When they confronted the suspect, he reportedly brandished a knife and made threatening gestures before fleeing the scene with the stolen items.
Battle Ground officers arrived within minutes and, with assistance from witnesses, located the suspect inside a vehicle at a nearby apartment complex. The suspect initially refused to exit the vehicle, leading to a brief barricade situation. Following negotiations, the suspect ultimately exited the vehicle and was safely taken into custody.
Baca was transported and booked into the Clark County Jail. Additionally, Officers discovered that Baca was wanted on an outstanding warrant for a parole violation related to an Attempted Robbery charge out of Portland, Oregon.
Three additional adults were also located inside the van but were identified and released at the scene.
