Public invited to attend forum that will focus on bridging the generational gap
VANCOUVER — Area residents are invited to learn how to bridge the generational gap in the workplace at Washington State University Vancouver’s next Business Growth MAP Alliance forum. The event will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m.. Wed., Feb. 19 at the Columbia Bank Community Room, 101 E. Sixth St., Vancouver.
Today's workforce is made up of five generations. With employees ranging from teens to those in their twilight years, how we communicate, motivate and reward employees matters. Breaking down communication barriers may make the difference in keeping your most important asset, your people. In this forum, PointNorth Consulting Inc. President Lisa Keohokalole Schauer will review the characteristics of the five generations, identify the broad differences, and discuss the result when generational attitudes and beliefs are blended.
This forum will leave attendees with:
- Increased understanding of the five generations in today's workforce and what has shaped their experiences, perspectives and opinions at work
- Opportunities to leverage differences to enhance organizational culture
- Methods of communication to reach multi-generational audiences
- Strategies to recruit and retain employees from multiple generations
Keohokalole Schauer leads a team of facilitators, storytellers and strategic communicators at PointNorth Consulting. Previously she had ownership stake in an engineering and construction management firm and led its business development, communication, HR, finance, compliance and IT functions. In 2018, she was appointed by Governor Inslee to serve as one of nine regents for Washington State University.
