Skyview and Seton Catholic both lost Saturday, but they earned a place at their state tournaments
The Skyview Storm and Seton Catholic Cougars did not get wins on the basketball court Saturday, but they sure had big victories in terms of the high school boys basketball season.
And they’ve got the hardware to prove it.
The Storm earned a sixth-place trophy at the Class 4A state tournament in the Tacoma Dome, and the Cougars did the same in the 1A state tournament in the Yakima Valley SunDome.
For the Storm, it is the second trophy in program history. Skyview also placed sixth in 2018.
For the Cougars, it is history in the making for the program, the first trophy.
Class 4A Boys
Fourth-Place/Sixth-Place Game
Kentwood 69, Skyview 47
Kentwood outscored the Storm by 14 points in the third quarter to secure the victory Saturday morning.
Including the state regional round elimination game, the Storm went 3-2 to make it to a trophy game. The Storm had said all year they believed they could be one of the final six teams in the state.
Then they went out and proved it.
Ryan Hanson, who hit the game-winning shot Friday to send Skyview to the trophy round, made three 3-pointers and scored a team-high 13 points in Saturday’s game. Demaree Collins, after back-to-back 30-point games, had 12 points Saturday. Gavin Perdue hit three 3-pointers for his nine points. Gavin Packer had team highs of six rebounds and five assists.
Jonah Robertson made five 3-pointers for Kentwood and scored 23 points, leading the Conquerors to the fourth-place finish.
Class 1A Boys

Freeman 53, Seton Catholic 46
The Freeman Scotties built a nine-point lead in the third quarter, but the Cougars rallied to tie in the fourth quarter, only to see Freeman get the job done in the closing minutes.
Still, the Cougars posed for a picture with a state trophy for the first time Saturday.
Kaiden Wilson had 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for Seton Catholic. Brady Angelo had 11 points and three assists.
Freeman got a double-double from Tanner Goldsmith, with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
