WASHOUGAL – State Representative David Stuebe (R-17th District) announced Monday (July 6) he’s running for re-election, continuing the straightforward message from his March op-ed calling for real relief for Washington families.
In the piece published in March, “Let’s Make Washington State Affordable for Everyone,” Rep. Stuebe laid out the daily pressures facing people across the state. “Whether you’re filling your gas tank, buying groceries, paying rent and utilities, or covering a medical bill, the cost of living keeps climbing,” he wrote. He argued that years of overspending in Olympia have made things harder for working families and small businesses, and that the solution isn’t more taxes, it’s smarter spending and real accountability.
A retired Marine Corps Colonel and current Mayor of Washougal, Dave Stuebe has always put problem-solving first. Known for building strong relationships and working across the aisle to find common ground, skills he honed during coalition missions in the Marines and right here serving his neighbors, he brings a practical approach rooted in listening to the people he represents.
“I’ve spent my career rolling up my sleeves and working with those who share our goal of making life better for families in Southwest Washington,” Stuebe said. “This isn’t about politics, it’s about getting results. I’ve taken that same community-first mindset to Olympia for the past two years, and I’m committed to keep fighting for lower costs and stronger neighborhoods.”
Stuebe’s re-election campaign will focus on three key priorities:
• Holding the line on taxes while creating real spending limits tied to what families can actually afford
• Returning budget surpluses directly to taxpayers through a new Tax Relief Account
• Protecting core services like public safety, education, health care access, and wildfire prevention while cutting waste and bureaucracy
“Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem,” Stuebe emphasized. “I’m running again because the work isn’t finished. Together, we can make our state more affordable and strengthen the communities we all love.”
