PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center invites the community to test out the Intuitive da Vinci 5 Surgical Robot at an open house on Sept. 9–10.
The test drive event will take place at the Firstenburg Tower Lobby at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center (420 NE Mother Joseph Pl., Vancouver, WA 98664) during these times:
- Tuesday, Sept. 9, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 10, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Community members are encouraged to sit at the controls and explore the capabilities of the da Vinci 5 Surgical Robot through a sophisticated simulation experience. The system offers a minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy, providing the most effective, least invasive surgical treatments.
“We’re excited to invite community members to touch and see what their surgical team uses to perform surgery,” said Leah Carter, nurse manager of surgery at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. “The da Vinci robot is used for many surgical procedures like hysterectomy, prostatectomy, gallbladder removal, appendectomy, and bariatric procedures.”
PeaceHealth Southwest currently has two da Vinci Xi robots in use. With the da Vinci system, small incisions of typically 1 to 2 cm are used to introduce miniaturized instruments and a high-definition 3D camera. Seated at a console, the surgeon views a magnified, high-resolution 3D image of the surgical site. Robotic and computer technologies seamlessly translate the surgeon’s hand movements into precise micro-movements of the instruments.
In other words, the surgeon is always in control, but large incisions to accommodate the surgeon’s hands are no longer needed.
