Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship expects to return to Clark County in 2021
The Washougal MX National had a plan for a safe event, with no tickets being sold, and plenty of space at the park.
Didn’t matter.
State restrictions led to the cancellation of the Aug. 22 pro motocross event.
MX Sports Pro Racing announced Friday that the second round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, scheduled for Washougal on Aug. 22, will instead be held in Tennessee.
“The decision … to cancel Washougal National is both unexpected and disappointing,” said Roy Janson, director of competition at MX Sports Pro Racing, in a press release.
Ryan Huffman, the track manager, said the track is still planning to host amateur racing. It is only the big pro event on Aug. 22 that has been called off by series officials. The new amateur schedule is being updated. Go to: washougalmxpk.com for the latest.
The press release noted that local and state officials had previously approved the plan to hold the pro event at Washougal. Newly imposed restrictions, however, led to the decision to call off the event.
Janson praised Huffman for his work this summer.
“Ryan Huffman … did everything within his power to organize a safe event for both professional and amateur competitors,” he said. “We commend him for the extensive efforts and sacrifices made to make the 2020 Washougal National a reality.”
Now, the series looks forward to Washougal MX National in 2021.
The first round of the series is still scheduled to take place in Tennessee on Saturday. The professional racers will then just remain in Tennessee for the second round, and compete there on Aug. 22.
