Club America, powered by Turning Point USA, is holding a gathering on Oct. 14 to honor Charlie Kirk by encouraging young people to get involved, to Meet the Moment.
Ruby Ruiz, Club America Evergreen field representative, said so many people have been reaching out, asking what they can do to honor Kirk.
With that in mind, Club America, a Clark County activism hub, is holding a “Meet the Moment” showcase Oct. 14 at the Firmly Planted Family Homeschool Resource Center in east Vancouver. That date coincides with the National Day of Remembrance for Kirk, voted on by the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.
“If they want to learn how to get involved with a local chapter, come to the event, or connect with me,” Ruiz said.

Turning Point USA rebranded its high school groups as Club America. The Evergreen chapter that Ruiz is associated with was created for homeschool students in the region. Ruiz and colleagues will be available to help students open their own chapters at their schools. Club America will work with students in public and private schools.
“Charlie’s courage started a movement,” the flyer for the event reads. “Together, we’ll carry it forward.”
Food will be available for purchase beginning at 6 p.m. The program starts at 7 p.m. Firmly Planted Family Homeschool Resource Center is located at 14001 SE 1st Street, Vancouver.

Club America held a vigil at the homeschool resource center in honor of Kirk in the week after his death. It was well attended, and reaction from the community was appreciated. Ruiz not only works for Turning Point USA, but she also had met Kirk on several occasions.
“It was comforting to see how much support was out there for the organization and how many people respected Charlie and were willing to show up in remembrance of him,” Ruiz said. “It was a comfort and an empowerment to the students.”
Now it is time for young people to carry the torch.
Heidi St. John and her husband Jay founded the Firmly Planted Family. Heidi St. John wrote an opinion piece last week on the Meet the Moment event.
“Let’s work together to restore the America we grew up with … and the one we want to pass on to our children and grandchildren,” she concluded.
