‘The Maltese Falcon’ lands at the Kiggins Theatre in downtown Vancouver for one performance Wed., Jan. 22
VANCOUVER — “The Maltese Falcon," a live radio drama led by John Barber, faculty member in the Creative Media and Digital Culture program at Washington State University Vancouver, lands at the Kiggins Theatre in downtown Vancouver for one performance Wed., Jan. 22. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the performance at 7 p.m.
This starts the eighth year of performances by Re-Imagined Radio, Barber's project to present radio drama as live community art performance featuring local voice actors and sound artists. The performance is based on the 1930 novel by Dashiell Hammett. A movie adaptation starring Humphrey Bogart was released in 1941.
Barber emphasized the enduring characters and their influence—notably hard-boiled detective Sam Space, femme fatale Brigid O’Shaughnessy, and villains Joel Cairo and Kaspar Gutman. “Together, they set the mark for noir detective stories,” Barber said.
Tickets are available for $10 in advance online at kigginstheatre.com, or for $12 at the door the night of the performance. Concessions, beer and wine will be available for purchase before and during the performance.
Re-Imagined Radio is a partnership between Barber, Kiggins Theatre, Metropolitan Performing Arts, and the Creative Media & Digital Culture Program at WSU Vancouver.
