On Tuesday, Let’s Go Washington (LGW) released its signature count update from the last 78 days of gathering for both initiatives. LGW and supporters are aiming for 400,000 signatures on each measure to ensure that stolen or damaged signatures from the violence against gatherers does not interfere with their opportunity to head to the Legislature.
The totals are as follows:
IL26-638 (Protect fairness in girls sports): 315,979
IL26-001 (Strengthen communication between parents and schools): 289,571
Campaign Manager Darren Littell issued the following statement about the totals:
“Courage is contagious and that is evidenced by the support for our initiatives. People are turning out in droves to sign and stand with the young women and families advocating for these measures. We are confident that we will hit our goal and qualify both initiatives – our track record has proven that we have some of the most dedicated and motivated supporters in the state. We look forward to bringing these issues to the Legislature since they have so spectacularly failed to protect girls and young women.”
Supporters and volunteers are being encouraged to continue collecting signatures until the January deadline, but to send partially or fully completed sheets in the mail by December 19th. Supporters will also be receiving a list of drop off/drop-in signing locations that they can bring their sheets to after the 19th. These spaces will not be released broadly as they are intended to be safe drop off locations, free from voter intimidation and suppression.
