Seton Catholic football fell in the state quarterfinals, and the volleyball and girls soccer seasons ended, with Columbia River and Seton Catholic reaching the state championship matches in their soccer classifications

It was a Saturday of close calls and conclusions for the fall season of high school sports in Southwest Washington.
The Columbia River Rapids just missed a state championship in Class 2A girls soccer.
The Seton Catholic Cougars fell one victory shy of a state title in Class 1A girls soccer.
The Skyview Storm (4A) and Hockinson Hawks (2A) brought home fourth-place trophies in girls soccer.
In volleyball, the Prairie Falcons had to settle for third place in the Class 3A tournament.
Meanwhile, the Camas Papermakers ended up with a fifth-place trophy in the Class 4A bracket.
Earlier in the day, football season came to an end for Clark County when the final team from the region — the Seton Catholic Cougars — lost in the Class 1A quarterfinals.
Annually, this Saturday is one of the most significant days in Washington high school sports. There are finals in girls soccer and big-school volleyball, and football determines its final four teams.
Even in defeat, the Rapids continued one of the most impressive feats in WIAA history. Columbia River reached the final four in girls soccer for the ninth consecutive season. The Rapids beat Anacortes 4-0 on Friday in the semifinals to reach the Class 2A state championship match in Federal Way.
West Valley of Spokane, however, got a second-half goal Saturday to claim a 1-0 victory. This was the second consecutive runner-up finish for the Rapids.
Hockinson also made the final four in 2A soccer. West Valley topped the Hawks 1-0 on Friday, and Anacortes beat the Hawks 2-0 in the third-place match on Saturday.
In the Class 1A title match, also in Federal Way, Cedar Park Christian of Bothell got the best of Seton Catholic 3-0 for Cedar Park’s second consecutive state title. Seton Catholic, which reached the final four last year as well, took home the second-place trophy, the best finish in program history.
Skyview’s run to the final four got the Storm a fourth-place trophy. The Storm dropped the semifinal match 2-1 to Tahoma then lost the third-place match to Issaquah 1-0.
In volleyball, the Prairie Falcons lost to top-seed North Thurston in the Class 3A state semifinals in Yakima on Saturday. The Falcons rebounded with a win in the third-place match over Bellevue.
The Camas Papermakers, in the 4A tournament, lost in the quarterfinals on Friday, but bounced back with two wins Saturday to take fifth place.
The quarterfinals were held throughout the state in football. Clark County had one team remaining. Seton Catholic lost to top-seed Royal 48-10. Seton Catholic and Royal played in the state championship game last year.
