Mountain View takes on Evergreen to open 3A GSHL play
The Class 2A Greater St. Helens League will not crown a champion tonight, but the winner of the Washougal-Ridgefield game will surely be in prime position.
And over in the 3A GSHL, defending champion Mountain View will take on undefeated Evergreen in the first league game of the season.
Those are the two biggest games on the high school football schedule in Week 5, which started in our region on Thursday with La Center’s 46-0 win over King’s Way Christian in the Trico League.
The 2A GSHL, with an eight-team league, has seven league games, which is why that league is already on its third week of league competition. We have all the data we need to know this is a big one: Ridgefield (3-1 overall, 2-0 in league) is about to face defending league champion Ridgefield (2-2, 2-0). The winner will be the lone undefeated-in-league team remaining.
Over at McKenzie Stadium, Mountain View is looking to erase a bit of frustration from its earlier non-league games. Oh sure, the Thunder put up 62 points in Week 3 in a win over Union, but the Thunder then lost last week to Hanford.
Evergreen, meanwhile, is looking to make a statement, that its undefeated non-league record is no fluke. This will be Evergreen’s toughest opponent to date.
Meanwhile, Prairie and Kelso are also opening 3A GSHL play this week.
The 4A GSHL is still playing non-league games.
The 2A GSHL, besides that big one in Ridgefield tonight, is vying for positioning, as well.
La Center’s win on Thursday showed that it remains the team to beat in the Trico League.
