Softball umpires in Southwest Washington have made a big call, and Evergreen High School senior Delaney Bollman was ruled the winner.
Bollman received the Evergreen Fast Pitch Officials Association’s 2024 scholarship, earning $1,500 to go toward college or trade school.
There were applicants representing 13 high schools in the region.
The umpires’ outreach program is to give back to the softball community and assist with a growing post-high school education expense.
“The importance of giving back to our local student athletes can’t be overstated,” said Chris Prothero, the president of the EFPOA. “All deserving careful consideration of our scholarship committed, the applications were impressive to say the least. This year, our association is congratulating Evergreen High School’s Delaney Bollman.”
Prothero called Bollman “inspiring.”
“Receiving this scholarship is an honor and a blessing in assisting me with my educational goals,” Bollman said. “While the financial challenge of paying for college is something that many students face, having the support from the EFPOA is wonderful for me and for my family.”
Bollman ranks ninth in a class of 397 students at Evergreen with a weighted 4.11 grade-point average. Bollman has volunteered her time at local senior centers and is a Community Food Bank volunteer.
Beyond her talent in softball (she earned first-team, all-league status), she is an accomplished weightlifter.
