Art community gathers for competition and to honor life and legacy of Marquita Call
The Camas art community is gathering Saturday in an event and competition in memory of Marquita Hall and her love of all things art, in particular Plein Air.
Plein Air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and refers to the act of painting an entire finished painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. Painting in Plein Air allows artists to capture the emotional and sensory dimensions of a particular landscape at a particular moment in time.
Saturday’s event is a competition, with cash prizes, as all entered artists will capture their vision of the tree-lined streets of downtown Camas. The event begins at 8 a.m. and all art must be available for sale by 5 p.m.
Painting sales will be conducted by Red Door Gallery Staff. Red Door Gallery is located at 411 NE Dallas Street in Camas.
The painting competition will take place regardless of the weather.
The event also honors the life and legacy of Marquita Call, founder of Camas Plein Air Event, Camas Gallery, and a tireless promoter of art. Marquita’s family wishes to thank artists for participating.
