High school basketball postseason awards and recognitions are being announced

An incredible high school basketball career is over on the court, but the accolades continue for Camas’ Keirra Thompson.
The senior was named Miss Washington — the top senior basketball player in the state — by the Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association.
“I”m not gonna lie. We were all a little shocked, but it was super cool,” said Scott Thompson, Keirra’s father and coach. The Thompson family was in the Seattle area for the WSGBCA all-star games.
Scott Thompson noted that generally speaking, the top senior player is from a team that places in state. It turns out, most of the teams that earned trophies at state this year were dominated by juniors or sophomores.
Camas did reach the elite eight, though, in an incredible defense of its state championship from the previous season. Thompson, and senior teammate Sophie Buzzard, made it to state all four years. Thompson, the starting point guard for all the games in the state tournament in those four seasons, helped Camas finish fourth, second, first in her first three years, and then the elite eight appearance as a senior.
Thompson, a Boise State signee, is the all-time assists leader at Camas, as well. She also set the single-game scoring record with a 40-point performance this past season. She scored six points and had a team-high six assists in the all-state game this past weekend.
Thompson and Thompson have one more high school game together as representatives from Camas.
Coach Thompson will coach Keirra and other senior standouts from the state in the Northwest Shootout. The game features some of Washington’s best versus some of Oregon’s best and will be played at Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus on Sunday, April 13.
The end of March annually brings the postseason awards for Northwest high school basketball.
Scorebook Live of Washington named Brooklynn Haywood, a junior from Union, on the first team, all-state team for all classifications. Thompson was second team for all classifications. Both were first-team selections for Class 4A.
The Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association had their state games this past weekend, as well.
Carson Morningstar, a junior from Prairie, was the leading scorer for his team in the Futures Game. He had 25 points in his team’s victory. Camas junior Ethan Harris was invited to the Futures game, as well.
Camas senior Jace VanVoorhis was invited to play in the 4A-3A senior all-star game. So, too, was Columbia River senior Ari Richardson in the 2A-1A game.
