Multiple state champion head coach back in charge of Papermakers
Camas High School gave a little hint on Monday night.
Actually, it was more than a little hint. It was pretty obvious.
Using a goat emoji and a picture of Roland Minder, the message was simple: The GOAT is back.
On Tuesday, the school made it official. Roland Minder, who guided the Camas boys soccer team to three state championships, will return as the head coach for the spring season this academic year.
Minder won 348 matches in his 23 seasons as the head coach. In the four seasons before he took over the program, the Papermakers were 9-46-6.
As Minder noted, “We were the doormats of Southwest Washington.”
He resigned as the boys head coach after the 2017 season.
The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT), according to Camas High School, Minder coached the girls soccer team for two more seasons and won that program’s second state title in 2018.
He left the head coaching ranks after that season, but he has remained a part of both programs as a volunteer assistant and mentor.
Later this school year, he will return to the sideline as head coach.
“I cannot stress how excited I am for our boys soccer program right now,” said Rory Oster, the athletic director at Camas. “I have such tremendous respect for Coach Minder and was thrilled when he showed interest (in) returning. We have a great group of student-athletes who are talented and ready to compete at the highest level right now. Coach Minder will step right in and allow them that opportunity.”
In 38 seasons (23 as the boys coach and 15 as the girls coach), the Papermakers won 30 league titles, had 33 state tournament appearances, went to the state championship match eight times, and won five state titles.
